Sessions for patients and their families: diagnosis, treatment and life afterwards, explained in plain language.

About the school

The Patient School runs educational sessions led by the society’s doctors. Attendance is free unless a session says otherwise. The school does not replace medical care — please consult your treating physician about your treatment.

Free screening

Together with KazIOR, the society runs two free early cancer detection programmes. A short questionnaire on the programme website shows whether you are eligible.

Lung cancer · LDCT

Low-dose computed tomography of the lungs

The scan takes a few minutes, needs no contrast, and the radiation dose is far lower than a regular CT. It can find lung cancer at an early stage, when treatment is most effective.

CT colonography of the large bowel

A gentle CT-based examination of the large bowel that helps detect polyps and tumours early. Eligibility and details are on the programme website.

How to prepare for a CT or MRI scan

What to bring, how the scan works and how long it takes. A separate section covers contrast media: tell your doctor in advance about allergic reactions, kidney disease, pregnancy or breastfeeding. Before an MRI, always report a pacemaker, metal implants, clips or fragments. This is a practical guide, not medical advice — confirm the exact preparation requirements with the clinic where your scan is scheduled.
